Leave it alone! Gold can be made into any shape to fit a stone, so by all means, get the jewelry to fit the opal, don't take anything off a good opal to fit it into a "standard" setting. Besides, a customer who wants a black or gray opal has already made a commitment to spend some money, and is therefore the most likely to get a custom setting done for the opal anyway. Congratulations--you sound like you made all the right moves with that rough!
