Angela, if you want to have a real heart breaker, some time in the future, this is the way to do it. Opal can be very sensitive to temperature change. When doing dishes, if you put your hands into hot rinse water then into cold water this can cause an otherwise stable opal to break. I have been a goldsmith and a gem cutter for 40 years and have seen a number of wedding rings in which they used opal as the stone. It is heart breaking to see the results of those who chose this combination. If you honestly know that you will be ok with replacing the opal, at a later date, then it would be a stone to consider.
