Hi Jim, thanks for the info. What I think I see is a black stone that shows color flashes on the side opposite the top stone as well as under the top stone. Looks like a black stone showing color play and has a top clear stone glued on. So you think, without seeing it, there is a thin precious opal layer between the top stone and the base stone? Mine looks like a black stone with colors all the way through, polished on one side, and a top stone glued on. I could be wrong. Two gem shop owners wouldn't help me at all, just said they were not worth anything, glue has separated, see you later. I have one other option, the local gem club. They may be able to separate, polish and re-glue a stone. Very beautiful. I have three of these, all same problem. Great website you have. Thanks. Good info. John
