Hi Jim! Thanks for posting a reply :-) In my panic, I emailed and telephoned Lee Horowitz, who seemed to be (as is!) a blue peruvian expert. Turns out what has happened is that the 19 strands of faceted nuggest I bought in May have a "water problem." It seems that the stones were not allowed to stabilize for the requisite year-ong period (after leaving the mine) before they were cut. As the stones are losing their water content, they're turning this opaque, sickley yellow-green color. I will be returning them to my vendor tomorrow as the fix for the problem is more trouble than it's worth. According to Lee, stable peruvian opal will never change from the color it had at the time it was purchased. What a relief to know it wasn't something I had done improperly! Hope this helps anyone else out there who might be experiencing the same problem!
