Hi Mike,
I know what you mean; my few purchases on eBay haven't amounted to much. I do better at Gem & Mineral Shows. For me, to buy quality rough opal at a honest price, I have to look at it in good and poor light. EBay doesn't give you that option. If you live in Southern California, our Opal & Gem Show on November 6 & 7 in Anaheim has the largest concentration of opal dealers under one roof in the US.
Other good shows are the POW-WOW in Quartzsite, AZ in Jan., and the Tucscon, AZ shows in Feb.
