Other than that, Weigh you piece before you have it cut. Ask where you take it to weigh it in front of you and ask for the extra back. Polishing doesn't remove that much rock, but the trim saw does. you may be able to find a good opal cutter at a lapidary club that would do it for you, but see the stuff he's done and how much experience he has w/opal. What kind of opal and where's it from? I deal mainly with Honduran opal (all 4 types). Good Luck
