There is some history of radioactivity in Opals but more in the substrate.

Your silver problem could come from the fluorocarbon or acetate contained in the bag acting as a silver desolving reajent with the moisture and minerals from the Opal. Of course this is all conjecture...

How long we the two together in the bag?

Was the silver wiped down with a silver polishing cloth after being touched by human hands.

Have you had this problem before?
