Peruvian opal is slighty acidic, this is what gives the opal the green color. Some of the opal is somewhat porous, if so this allows the opal to change color to muddy green or blue. There is a good possibility that the gases, given off from the opal, has affected the silver. I have seen some people use acid to treat the opal to get a darker green color. This to could give you the same problem.
